What it takes
The first time I made the choice to start my current fitness journey was towards the beginning of 2018. I had just left my last corporate job , was going through my own personal issues and it was the first time in12+ years that I decided to take a break for myself which my soul very much needed. During that time, I had the money, resources and time to do whatever I wanted and as I had mentioned in my earlier blog, the first thing that came to my mind was to be as fit as I can be. I decided to hire a personal trainer to help me get started on my goals but the biggest change I made was to start running. I was living on the waterfront in Jersey city at that time and for those who have been there know it’s a great place to run. I saw people from far away came to run there and that was a wake up call as I had no excuses to give myself for not running.
I also had a very nice gym overlooking the Manhattan skyline which I made full use of. I started out slow but determined as i knew this is the start of something big, something that will change my perspective of myself and something that I’ve chosen out of my own free-will.
By the time it was summer of 2018, I was running almost every morning and going to the gym in the afternoon. I also joined another gym so to have more variety in equipments and less variety in excuses. Above all, I was showing up and doing the hustle without worrying about the results and i think that was the biggest game changer as results started showing up in 3-4 months.
I had my own personal issues that I was dealing with at that time plus I wasn’t working for the first time in my life so you can imagine the multitude of emotions I was processing each day. Strangely though I wasn’t feeling scared.
For the first time in my life, I felt like I was in control, and that’s a good feeling to have. Obviously there are ups and downs in any journey and same is the case with working out. You have good and bad days but it’s for us to find some goodness even in those bad days. For me, I’ve not done anything fancy that you can’t do. In fact, it all boils down to “CONSISTENCY”. If we can develop a mindset of caring for our own health as a lifestyle rather than a chore, we can go a long way.
I’ve cultivated that point of view in me and through my holistic approach (hint: topic for one of my next blogs) I’m sure I’ll do that in others once my path crosses with them.
Namaste!
